What LLM does the AI Assistant use?
The AI Assistant uses gpt-4.1-mini, gpt-4.1 and o4-mini from OpenAI’s API now (with plans to switch to Microsoft Azure AI Foundry soon).
Does the AI Assistant store my chat messages?
Except for data provided using the built-in feedback mechanism (thumbs up/down), to protect user privacy, Maltego does not store any chat messages or other data provided during Assistant conversations on its backend systems. Instead, all chat threads are stored locally in the frontend of the Maltego Graph (Browser), and the current thread’s chat history is re-sent to the backend with each new message to advance the chat.
While this design works with Maltego’s end-to-end encryption model, and sensitive investigation data remains under the user's control as much as possible, the benefits of full end-to-end encryption cannot be guaranteed for any data shared with the Assistant due to technical reasons.
Messages shared with the Maltego AI Assistant are not encrypted. Both Maltego and the language model provider may be able to access the content of these chats. However, no chat content is stored by Maltego on the backend systems.
As a rule, always follow your organizations internal policies and avoid sharing sensitive or confidential information in conversations with the AI Assistant.
