Layouts help you gain valuable insights by visualizing your data in a more intuitive and structured way.
Maltego Graph Browser offers four layout options to organize and analyze your data:
- Hierarchical
- Organic
- Circular
- Orthogonal
You can switch between these layouts by selecting the desired option from the left ribbon of the graph interface.
Hierarchical layout
Entities are stacked in a tree-like structure based on their relationships.

Organic layout
Entities are packed tightly to minimize the overall distance between connected entities, clustering strongly related nodes together.

Circular layout
Central Entities with the most links are placed in the center, surrounded by less connected nodes in concentric circles.

Orthogonal layout
Entities are aligned along straight lines in a grid-based structure, resulting in a clear and organized layout.

Layout Comparison Table
| Layout | Best For | Insights for Investigators |
|---|---|---|
| Hierarchical | Tracing origins and dependencies | Map hierarchical structures like command chains or data flows. |
| Circular | Highlighting central actors | Identify key influencers or hubs; visualize proximity to critical nodes. |
| Organic | Exploring dense networks | Detect clusters or communities; uncover hidden patterns and relationships. |
| Orthogonal | Structured data visualization | Provide a clean, grid-like view; detect patterns in structured graphs like transactions. |
